Every act of kindness, no matter how big or small, always goes a long way.
65-year-old Diane Gordon is a woman who walks three miles to and from work every day. Some three years ago, her car broke down and she never managed to get the money in order to have it repaired. Things haven’t been easy for this grandma, but she didn’t have a choice because her finances were tight.
One day, as she was walking to work, she stopped by the gas station to grab something to eat when she noticed a bag on the ground. As she got closer, she noticed that there was money inside, and a lot of it.
“I looked down on the ground and found a plastic bag with a large sum of money in it,” she told WJBK. “When you turned it over, there was even more money.”
Diane was in a complete shock. She wondered who could have lost that much money. And even those she knew that the $15,000 that were inside could solve many of her problems she never, not even for a second, thought of taking the money. Instead, she was quick to contact the local police station. “This doesn’t belong to me, I need to call a police officer,” Diane said.
Since there was a card inside indicating that the money was given to a couple who got married earlier that day, it wasn’t hard for the rightful owners to be tracked down.
“There were wedding cards with a name on it, and we were able to get the money back to them,” Police Chief Dan Keller of the White Lake Township Police Department shared in an interview with The Washington Post.
Diane’s act stunned the officers. “She didn’t hesitate; she didn’t question it,” the police chief said about Diane. “This doesn’t happen very often, that someone finds a large sum of money and turns it in.”
As a thank you for the kind deed she made, one of the dispatchers who received Diane’s call, decided to set up a GoFundMe page in order to raise money for Diane so that she could have her car repaired. However, once the story spread around, a local car dealership gave Diane a brand new Jeep. As of the fundraising, she was able to receive over $82,000.
Her kindness truly paid off. She did the right thing and the thank you she received was bigger that she could ever anticipate.
